Local businesses drive the extra yard breaking fundraising record in 24th Annual Golf Tournament for Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland

Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland this week proudly announced the 24th anniversary of their annual golf tournament broke its own fundraising record achieving over £16,500. The tournament held at Lingdale Golf Club last week saw over 100 golfers and representatives from twenty-four regional corporates in attendance.

Since the tournament's beginning over twenty years ago, monies raised have benefited local older people through targeted funds reacting to the annual needs of older people. This year, the charity allocated funds to a Cost-of-Living Resilience Fund specifically created to respond to the Government's decision to revoke the Winter Fuel Payment.

The day started with all players networking over breakfast. 11 o'clock saw the shotgun from across the course, commencing this year's golf tournament, with local business JL Surveyors clinching 1st Prize and the Charity Shield.

Tony Donovan, Executive Director, responds to this year's event - "The day is nothing without the support of local businesses, players, and sponsors. We were extremely fortunate to see so many benefactors donating to this year's fundraiser resulting in a record total amount.

It was clear that our message connected with so many people on the day, particularly considering the difficult daily decisions thousands of older people will have to face this Winter. In 2024, no one should have to make the choice between heating or eating, especially those who are most vulnerable."

Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland is an independent local charity with a national name. Working in the local community to help older people live happier, active, fulfilled and socially-engaged lives in communities around the City, County and Rutland.
